Slack Integration

NOTE: Workzone integrations like Slack are optional add-ons to Workzone. For details on adding this feature if you don't have it already, please email help@workzone.com.

With Workzone's Slack integration, users can take advantage of Slack's popular cloud-based team communication platform to receive certain notifications from Workzone directly in the Slack platform.

Supported Notifications

Currently, the following types of notifications from Workzone that are delivered via email messages are also supported for delivery via Slack:

  • Downstream non-summary task responsible parties when non-summary predecessor tasks are marked as complete (created when using dependencies)
  • Comments (including markup) to subscribed and/or @mentioned users
  • New project request submissions
  • Project request updates
  • Approval requests recipients
  • Approval request responses

NOTE: Slack notifications (once the integration is configured) are only delivered when the equivalent email notification is enabled within Workzone's settings.

Initial Configuration

Workzone's Slack integration can be set up in a few minutes. Start in the settings (top right gear icon) for All Workspaces, on the Integrations page, under the Global section on the left. Click the Slack block, shown here:

...and then click and follow each of the listed steps on that page, also described below:

Step 1:

Click on the CLICK HERE link on that page to create a new App in Slack. This will open up Slack's administrator settings and begin to create the new app.

On the popup that appears, select the Slack workspace and click Next.

Step 2:

On the "Review summary & create your app" window that appears, it's not necessary to review or change anything. Simply click Create.

Upon being directed to the Slack app configuration page, click Got It.

Step 3:

Almost all of the configuration is taken care of. It's only necessary to upload an app icon for the Workzone app. Download Workzone's icon by clicking on the HERE link on the settings page in Workzone.

Scroll down on the configuration page to the Display Information section. There is an area to upload the logo for the app. Optionally, the name and descriptions of the Workzone app can also be changed.

Step 4:

Now it's time to install the app in the appopriate Slack workspace. On the left-hand side of the Slack page, toward the top, find Install App. Click there and then click Install to [your Slack workspace].

On the window that pops up, click Allow.

Step 5:

On the page that appears, you'll see the Bot Token for your app. Click Copy and return to this Workzone setup page.

Paste Slack's Bot Token in the field on the settings page in Workzone, click Save, and the app is installed!
