Linking To Items
Workzone can link to items which reside elsewhere in Workzone, in Google's document services, or to any item hosted/online with a specific address. This article also briefly describes uploading files directly into Workzone.

Projects Module
To upload a document from your computer/device or link to an existing file elsewhere in Workzone, within Google, or on the web, click on the name of the task/project, select the Files tab in the details tray, then click the Add File button. In the dropdown list that appears (as seen below), you can then choose to:
- Upload from computer - Either click the Select Files button and choose the file(s) you want to upload or drag and drop the file(s) onto the Drop files here... area. Click the Upload button to confirm.
- Link file from Workzone - Click on the folder names that display to navigate to the folder or item to which you'd like to link. Check the box next to that item and then click the Add Selected Items button. (only documents in the same workspace are available to be linked)
- Link file from Google Drive - Enter the URL for the file from Google (you can follow the steps here to find a document's URL). You can also choose to enter a File Name and select one of File Type icons, then click the Add Link button.
- Add web link - Enter the URL for the item. You can also choose to enter a Web Link Name and Description, then click the Add Link button.
Additionally, you can choose to link these other items:
- Link to new project request - For details on this, check out Link To A Request From An Existing Project.
- Link to board (card) - Select the Overview tab in the details tray, then click Link to board in the Project Details section (as seen below). In the Link to Board overlay that appears, click the attach link to the left of the board you want linked. A new card will be created on the selected board.
NOTE: Tasks can also have links created for boards using the same Link to board option found in the Task Details section of a task's details tray (usually displayed by clicking the task name).
Boards Module
To add an item to a card on a board, click on the card to display its details overlay and select the Item Details tab. On the Attachments line, click the plus icon and choose from the following options:
- Upload from computer - After choosing this option, drag and drop or click the Select Files button for the documents you want to upload from your computer/device, then click the Upload button.
- Link file from Workzone - Click on the folder names that display to navigate to the folder or item to which you'd like to link. Check the box next to that item and then click the Add Selected Items button. (only documents in the same workspace are available to be linked)
- Link file from Google Drive - Enter the URL for the file from Google (you can follow the steps here to find a document's URL). You can also choose to enter a File Name and select one of File Type icons, then click the Add Link button.
- Add web link - Enter the URL for the item. You can also choose to enter a Web Link Name, then click the Add Link button.
- Link to request - Click the attach link to the left of the appropriate request.
- Link to project - Click the attach link to the left of the appropriate project.
Additionally, a new project can be created and linked simultaneously to an existing card on a board by opening the card details overlay and clicking the Create linked project link in the top right corner, as highlighted here:
Requests Module
To upload a document from your computer/device or link to an existing file elsewhere in Workzone, within Google, or on the web, click on the name of the request, select the Files tab in the details tray, then click the Add File button. Additionally, you can choose to link these other items:
- Create linked project - You can create a new project linked to the request by clicking the Create linked project link in the top right (the steps from there are identical to those described here). You can also link to an existing project. For details on this, check out Link To A Request From An Existing Project.
- Link to board (card) - Click Link to board in the top right. In the Link to Board overlay that appears, click the attach link to the left of the board you want linked. A new card will be created on the selected board.
Documents Module
For a particular workspace, click on a folder (or subfolder) on the left, then use the Add File button to choose from the following options:
- Upload from computer - Click the Select Files button and choose the file(s) you want to upload or drag and drop the file(s) onto the Drop files here... area. Click the Upload button to confirm.
- Link file from Workzone - Click on the folder names that display to navigate to the folder or item to which you'd like to link. Check the box next to that item and then click the Add Selected Items button. (only documents in the same workspace are available to be linked)
- Link file from Google Drive - Enter the URL for the file from Google (you can follow the steps here to find a document's URL). You can also choose to enter a File Name and select one of File Type icons, then click the Add Link button.
